The Steel Slit Damper (SSD) is fabricated from a standard structural wide-flange section with a number of slits cut from the web, in a vierendeel truss arrangement. The slits are rounded at their ends thereby reducing stress concentration in reentrant-corners. In this study, behaviors of three specimens steel slit damper are examined and improved with reducing web thickness and increasing slit width. For numerical cases, at first, dampers are modeled in ABAQUS program then the performance from the device is verified by Chan and Albermani’s test result. The results from the comparison of experimental and numerical models show that modified detail improves the amount of viscous damping for the first case with equal slit length and second case with a longer middle slit, respectively 8.3 and 16.6%. However, certain improvement has not been made for the third case with shorter middle slit due to stress concentration and amount of viscous damping in this case reduced by 1.2%. The improvements of buckling resistance loss for the second and third samples were obtained respectively 58.3 and 83.4% while no buckling occurred in the case with widened slits of equal length. The remaining resistance of three samples was improved respectively 17.7, 7.9 and 15.1%.
