Coupling beam in a shear wall stands as a first defense line against seismic loads and acts as a fuse. The first plastic hinges will be created in this element of structure due to lateral loads. As a result, the good performance of shear wall is a key factor in overall structural behavior when seismic loads are applied. Because of complexity and time-consuming procedure of constructing, and erecting diagonal reinforcing bars in coupling concrete beams, steel coupling beams have been replaced them. In this article two structures ,12 and 22 stories, have been modeled and analyzed which have dual lateral systems, moment resisting frames and coupled shear walls with steel coupling beams .These structures have been investigated by linear static and nonlinear dynamic analyses and their seismic behavior are illustrated. Under these analyses, the direction of bending moment in the height of shear wall changes (because of moment hinges) and since a great amount of energy dissipates.
