Abstract
Evaluation of structures for near-fault earthquakes is taken into consideration of different researchers in recent years. Near-fault earthquakes with forward-directivity effect cause a pulse in the velocity record. The long-period velocity pulse in near-fault earthquakes causes higher seismic demands in steel moment resisting frames than far-fault earthquakes. In this research higher modes effect (HME) are evaluated in steel moment resisting frames under strike-normal (SN) and strike-parallel (SP) of near-fault earthquakes with forwarddirectivity effect and velocity pulse. For this purpose, Displacement-based adaptive pushover (DAP) method that considers the higher modes effect, has been used in this paper. The results show that the higher modes effect under strike-parallel component is higher than strike-normal component. Top stories of the structures are affected by higher modes effects. The results show that HME is increased by enhancing the time period of the structures.
