Abstract
In moment distribution method, the successive clamping and releasing of joints lead to produce the outof- balance moments at fixed joints. And, analysis of structures by slope-deflection method needs to set up and solve simultaneous equations. In this research, the moment propagation method is developed for analysis of continuous beams and bridge frames considering flexural using the concept of rotation propagation. In the method, it is considered all joints are free to rotate and joint moments are propagated throughout the structure as a wave. The method is presented in 1) a step-by-step manner and 2) closed-form equations. Illustrating examples showed that, the out-of-balance moments are not produced at joints, and no need to set up and solve simultaneous equations. The process analysis is efficient and resulted moments are exact. Furthermore, member-end moments are obtained directly and there is not necessary to initially found corresponding joint rotations. Moreover, it is not needed to completely analyze the bridge frame, when some member-end moments should be determined.
