Abstract

In recent years, several studies have used concrete-filled double skin steel tubular (CFDST) as columns or beams. The strengths of the CFDSTs compared with the concrete-filled steel tubular (CFSTs) are as follows: Increasing the modulus section, lighter weight, increasing stability, attenuation profile and better cyclic performance. Therefore, it is expected that CFDSTs have a great potential to be used in construction structures. This paper analyzed the CFDSTs with the use of finite element modeling by ABAQUS Software under the influence of confinement and under axial load pressure. In this study, 19 specimens were investigated, by examining the confinement effect of circle, square and rectangular sections, and the effect of increasing the core on the confinement of the specimens. Result show that the increase of the core reduces the circular cross-sectional confinement, but the reverse of this behavior was observed in square and rectangular sections, which was due to the presence of a corner at the four-sided sections.
