Abstract

Cycling through clean transport modes also poses a high safety risk for users. The vision and confidence in the network and the cycling path are effective in spreading the culture of its use and, of course, a careful identification of the factors contributing to this risk leads to a reduction and better understanding of the adverse and effective factors. The present field study was conducted in relation to the cycling network of two cities in the center of the province with relatively flat topography and 60 active cyclists. The data were analyzed by inferential statistics using exploratory factor analysis and data clustering by SPSS software. The results show that the ideal parameters of the route and the ideal surface design as well as the distance from the axis of the vehicle transport network have the greatest impact on the safety and risk reduction of the cyclist. In the decision tree model, it was found that the factor of the presence of motor vehicles had the most severe effect on reducing the cyclist's sense of safety. It is therefore advisable to make stricter planning for enforcement of motor vehicles that increase the risk of cyclists, and to control cyclists' use of personal safety equipment such as helmets.
