Abstract

There are some claims between the contract parties of construction projects. Claims are likely to be raised by both sides of a contract in most of the construction projects. These claims can pose negative effects on the financial and time-related goals of the project. In this study, the sources of dispute and claim in the relations between contractors and employers of a construction project are evaluated. To achieve this goal, the sources leading to claims in construction projects are identified first. Consequently, the viewpoints of employers, consultants and contractors in the construction industry are gathered through probability of occurrence and intensity of effect questionnaires. The gathered data is then processed using the Friedman examination method and the SPSS software. As an outcome of this procedure, the sources of claims between employers and contractors will be ranked based on the presented questionnaire. According to the results, unpredictability of economic conditions, inflation and its subsequent recession as well as delays in statement payments to contractors in return of their work are recognized as the most effective sources of claim.
