Abstract

Nano-materials have been widely applied in cement-based materials due to its excellent performance .The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of nanoparticles with different geometries such as nanosilica, nano halloysite and nano montmorillonite on the mechanical properties of concrete pavements including compressive strength, abrasion resistance.to evaluate the pozzolanic effect of nanoparticles exactly, X-ray diffraction (XRD) was done. In terms of compressive strength, nano-montmorillonite has the highest improvement among nanoparticles with a rate of about 23.1%. By comparing the geometry of zero-dimensional, one-dimensional and two-dimensional nanoparticles, and according to the results, the plate-shaped aluminosilicate structure of montmorillonite nanoparticles has improved more than other nanoparticles. Based on the results obtained from the relationship between compressive strength and abrasion with the results of X-ray diffraction test it is possible to obtain an improving factor in the use of nanoparticles and microsilica are the pozzolanic reaction and conversion of Ca(OH)2 to hydrated calcium silicate.
