Abstract

Corrosion of bars is one of the most important reason for reducing the life time of reinforced concrete structures. Many researches carried out or under work to decrease this effect and control bars corrosion. In this study, samples of reinforced concrete with coated bar, 40 and 60 micron of zinc, epoxy and uncoated were made and cured in standard, accelerated as well as environmental conditions (wet and dry, submerged and coastal) of Oman Sea for 14 months. On 92 samples, compressive strength tests, electric resistance, water absorption, permeability test under water pressure, permeability of chloride ion, current and corrosion potential tests and bar weight loss were performed according to the related standards. The results of weight loss and corrosion indicated better performance of concrete with coated bar comparing to uncoated concrete in different conditions. No evidence of cracks and corrosion observed on samples with no coated of bars in all curing conditions during the tests.
