Abstract

The tomb of SheTheikh Shahabuddin Ahri is located in Ahar city of East Azerbaijan province. This monument includes a monastery, a mosque, a high porch, minarets and numerous pavilions. The old building has special architectural features and was registered in the list of national monuments of Iran in 1952. This type of building is mainly made of building materials (brick, adobe and stone) and parts of this tomb were damaged in the earthquake of August 12, 2013. In the present study, an attempt has been made to consider an appropriate choice for the retrofitting of the main part of the tomb. Since with structural analysis by powerful software, it is possible to study many phenomena of its behavior and also requires less time and cost than testing, so Ansys finite element software is used with high capabilities and analytical results are evaluated and interpreted. In general, the secondary loading of the dome and the presence of multiple cracks indicate the risk of serious damage to important parts of the tomb, and therefore the proper selection of retrofitting has been evaluated. Despite the many limitations for applying the least visual changes and material replacement, the analytical results of the proposed retrofitting scheme indicate a significant increase in behavioral characteristics.
