In this paper, the converter slag is used as an additive to cement to reduce the hydration heat and accelerate the concrete in bulk constructions. The tests carried out include compressive strength, flexural strength and initial setting time of setting. Either Samples with high temperature furnace slag or converter slag, each in division, with the rate of 5 percent, from5 to30% by weight of cement are used as an alternative to slag.
The results obtained from the compressive strength of slag-containing samples at early ages indicate that slag acts as a finer filler and is made up of a control sample, with a compressive strength of 3 days old, very low, over time and in age 28 days, the difference in compressive strength of cement containing slag was reduced with the control sample.
In samples containing 5% slag, the 28-day compressive strength was approximately equal to the control sample. Flexural samples were tested at 28 days of age. The results indicated that the addition of slag to cement with a uniform slope reduced the bending strength of the samples. The results of the initial fixation of the cement containing the converter slag showed that increasing the amount of converter slag to the cement increased its initial time.
