The application of admixtures and steel fibers is so prevalent due to wide spreading need for improving the mechanical properties of concrete. Since the fibers reduce the workability of the normal concrete, the self-compacting concrete can be considered as a suitable solution. The impact resistance studies are of importance because of the direct relation of the impact resistance and other mechanical properties of concrete.
This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of different combinations of nano-silica and steel fibers on the impact resistance and mechanical properties of self-consolidating concrete mixtures. In particular, the main novelty of this study is to maximize the impact resistance by optimizing the amount of the steel fibers. The tensile, compressive, bending strength and impact tests were performed on nine mixture designs with different percentages of the nano-silica and Steel fibers. The results indicated that the Steel fibers content govern the tensile strength and impact resistance of the specimens. Also, variation of the nano-silica content makes great differences in bending and compressive strength.
