Reliability theory is a new method to evaluate the safety of a structure against the forces acting on it. In this method, the parameters of the analysis and design process of the structure are tried to be as close to reality as possible. For this purpose, the analysis and design space is taken out of a certain state and enters the probabilistic space. In the present study, methods based on reliability index and simulation have been used in calculating the probability of failure and estimating the design point of truss structures. For this purpose, several simple and complex truss structures have been considered and their performance has been simulated. To investigate the effect of probability distribution on the safety of truss structures by probabilistic method, different probability distributions for random parameters such as load and strength were used and simulations and statistical calculations were performed with MATLAB software. Akaike information criterion has been used to measure the performance of the models. The results show that analytical methods are not efficient for many structural problems and simulation-based methods are much more effective. In particular, some simulation methods save a lot of analysis time, which significantly reduces costs. On the other hand, the results indicate the significant role of probability distributions of uncertain parameters in the reliability analysis of structures.
